Urban Geology – Projects
Geological Survey Ireland produces urban geoscience data on a project basis, informing the areas of soil geochemistry and contamination, 3D modelling of ground conditions, and assessing ground motions that present a hazard to citizens in the urban environment.
Dublin Soil Urban Geochemistry (SURGE)
Dublin SURGE Project is the first ever in-depth study on the baseline geochemistry of Dublin’s urban topsoil. In 2009 Geological Survey Ireland partnered with the Norwegian Geological Survey (NGU) to take over 1000 surface topsoil samples from public areas in the greater Dublin area.
Sub-Urban
Sub-Urban is a European network of Geological Surveys, City Councils, Research Partners and Private Sector Companies working together to improve how we manage the ground beneath our cities and help decision-makers, planners and practitioners when managing the underground.
Urban Geology Expert Group (UGEG)
The Urban Geology Expert Group (UGEG) aims to support Europe’s Urban Agenda and urban policies to fulfil the requirements of European Commission (EC) Directives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
