Geological Survey Ireland in association with iCRAG have produced a series of updated chapters of the Lower Carboniferous Stratigraphy of the Irish Midlands. Colloquially known as the 'Blue Book', it focuses on the Tournaisian of the Irish Midlands, which proved influential amongst exploration geologists.
In 1984, M.E. Philcox produced the original Blue Book as the past half century of mineral exploration and research activity in Ireland has generated a considerable amount of lithostratigraphic data. This extremely valuable compilation of work was included in an Irish Association of Economic Geology publication.
