Co. Dublin Shoreline Change

​The shoreline change assessment for Dublin has been completed for the period between 2000-2021. This assessment focussed on soft shorelines along the Dublin coast which account for approximately 29% of the total Dublin coastline. Of the assessed shorelines, 24% (11.9 km) were accreting, 51% (25.7 km) were stable, 19% (9.5 km) experienced moderate erosion, while almost 7% (3.2km) experienced high erosion. The highest areas of erosion were Portrane and Rush with rates reaching -3.4m/year, while Portmarnock and Donabate were also hotspots of erosion. 

While comparing the period between 2000-2021 to the more recent period between 2013-2021, a rise in rate and scale of erosion along soft coasts of Dublin can be seen. rising from 12.7 km of shoreline experiencing erosion to 19.9 km. While the average rates of erosion also rising from -0.8m/year to -1.4m/year.
