2018 William King Lecture

​The upcoming 2018 William King Lecture will take place at 6pm on Wednesday 7th March in the Human Biology Building in NUI Galway. The new President of NUI Galway has kindly agreed to open proceedings, and this year’s distinguished speaker will be Professor Emiliano Bruner (National Research Centre for Human Evolution, Burgos, Spain). He will deliver a public lecture on what fossil skulls and cutting-edge technology can reveal about the evolution of the human brain (see attached flyer for details).

The William King public lecture series was established in 2015 to honour William King, the first Professor of Geology and Mineralogy at Queen’s College Galway. King became the first scientist to ever name a new and extinct species of human when he proposed the name Homo neanderthalensis in 1863. This achievement remains a very significant milestone in the birth of palaeoanthropology (the study of human evolution).
