Archives

GSI is a recognised repository of the National Archives with a statutory responsibility for preservation and protection of records of the organisation under government archive legislation. GSI rare archive collections of historical significance are stored and protected in fire and temperature controlled safe storage.

Not all archive content is catalogued. Within the limited resources available, our aim is to complete the cataloguing with the objective to have records and information made more accessible for clients and researchers.

Enquiries about the archives are welcome and should be directed to Eddie McMonagle (Information Programme) by email: eddie.mcmonagle[AT]gsi.ie. However, it must be noted that we are unable to undertake research. The archive is not open to the public but requests can be facilitated and will normally require an appointment.
