Geological Survey Ireland is involved in several projects relating to raw materials contributing to construction and engineering.

Aggregate Potential (Minerals Programme)

​The Minerals programme compiled the potential for crushed rocks and sand and gravel or aggregates for Ireland as a planning tool for Local Authorities helping them to choose local resources whenever possible.

MINDeSEA (Marine Programme)

Seabed MINerals Deposits in European SEAs: Metallogeny and Geological Potential for Strategic and Critical Raw Materials (MINDeSEA) involves collaboration across twelve geological surveys working towards exploration and investigation of seafloor mineral deposits.  This project aims to evaluate the potential uses of strategic metals and critical raw materials necessary to support the raw materials industrial needs of modern society. Geological Survey Ireland is a partner on this project within the Marine and Coastal Unit.

Geological Heritage Guidelines for the Extractive Industry (Geoheritage Programme)

​These guidelines are intended for Irish Concrete Federation members so that they may follow best practice and receive clear information concerning geological heritage in relation to any proposed quarry or related development or land purchase.
