Sub-Urban is a European network of Geological Surveys, City Councils, Research Partners and Private Sector Companies working together to improve how we manage the ground beneath our cities and help decision-makers, planners and practitioners when managing the underground.
Sub-Urban is a COST action that run from 2013 to 2017. COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) was supported by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020.
Sub-Urban main delivery was a toolbox that includes a series of recommended methodologies, good practice and case studies to help decision-makers. The toolbox contains all the data and reports that were created during the action.

Seven working groups were created. Each of them delivered a report of good practice, best effort based on the knowledge and experience of the different cities:
- Subsurface Urban planning and management
- Data acquisition and management
- 3D subsurface modelling and visualization
- Groundwater, geothermal modelling and monitoring
- Geotechnical modelling and hazards
- Geochemistry
- Urban planning and cultural heritage
Geological Survey Ireland collaborated in the creation of the good practice report in the Geotechnical modelling and hazards working group. And Dublin was also one of the City studies.
