Geological Survey welcomes the inclusion of the Geoscience sector in Project Ireland 2040. It welcomes the recognition that the Geoscience sector will play a key role in providing both knowledge and supporting jobs in urban and rural communities. The National Strategic Outcome 9 outlined in the National Development Plan 2018-2027 include a commitment to complete two of Geological Survey Ireland flagship baseline mapping Programmes (Tellus and INFOMAR) to complete coverage of Ireland's entire landmass and sea areas by 2028. These programmes both provide much needed baseline environmental datasets to protect our environment and also facilitate the de-risking of investment to sustainably manage our natural resources.
