The seventh webinar for this year is next week, Thursday 10th November 2022 at 4.00pm GMT (5pm CET). Speaker Professor Peter Malin, Director of Development at ASIR will be giving a talk entitled "Best practice for geophysical characterisation & seismic monitoring".

This webinar is very timely for the geothermal sector on the island of Ireland. Northern Ireland is about to embark on resource characterisation for both the shallow and deep demonstrator projects announced by the Minister for the Economy Gordon Lyons MLA at #NIGeothermalWeek in June 2022. Meanwhile, the Government of Ireland is investigating the feasibility of geothermal energy as a heat source for low carbon district heating. As we move closer to the first deep geothermal installation on the island, we are honoured to have Professor Emeritus Peter E. Malin give this webinar for us on best practice for geophysical reservoir characterisation and the importance of seismic monitoring for deep geothermal projects.

Peter’s current work focuses on the imaging and understanding of the interaction of faults and fractures with subsurface fluids. Along with geological studies using Joint Geophysical Imaging of structure and fracture zones with seismic and electromagnetic methods, he is following along new developments in passive imaging using seismic noise techniques such as Seismic Emission Tomography. We look forward to listening and learning from Peter’s depth of experiences and how they may be applicable to our emerging geothermal sector.
