Quaternary research is vital for understanding the behaviour of our environment and climate systems and the response of local climates, environments and ecosystems to broader change. The impacts of Quaternary research therefore extend well beyond the discipline and can have a significant bearing on planning for a more sustainable future. F urthermore funded research

proposals increasingly require consideration of wider consequences and written impact statements. Therefore, this year our theme focuses on the impacts of Quaternary research. We welcome abstracts that demonstrate and explore examples of research with impact in Quaternary Science, be it interdisciplinary or to wider society.

We are delighted to be returning to an in person event. This year’s Autumn Symposium will be held on Friday, 2 December at Maynooth University. The event is being organised by Helen Shaw and Nick Scroxton from the Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units (ICARUS) and Department of Geography at Maynooth. We invite short talks (12 minutes +3 for questions) on the symposium theme of 'Research from the past Impact for the future'. Please send abstracts (max 200 words) to helen.shaw@mu.ie and nick.scroxton@mu.ie no later than 18 November.
