IRC-GSI programmes

​Geological Survey Ireland have partnered with the Irish Research Council on a number of funding programmes. These range from MSc and Postdoc Earth Science research, to interdisciplinary projects across social and physical sciences.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Enterprise Partnership Scheme

​The IRC Enterprise Partnership Scheme is designed to support postdoctoral level researchers based in third level institutes but working closely with an industry partner or public body.

Projects are two years duration and fund a fellowship with a small portion of funding available for research costs.

Successful applicants are expected to spend time with the industry partner during the project and engage with the relevant sector.

Geological Survey Ireland may also act an Enterprise partner in some circumstances - please contact research@gsi.ie before developing your proposal if you are considering GSI as your Enterprise Partner.

Employment Based Programme

This call supports industry based research. The aim of the programme is to (i) embed the scholar in a professional research and innovation environment for training and development whilst simultaneously providing postgraduate education leading to a Masters by Research or PhD; and (ii) facilitate research collaboration, knowledge transfer and networking between scholars & their host HEIs and Irish-based employers

The GSI-IRC funding is aimed at Masters (Research) level students carrying out research in a company or approved public body. They will have duel status as an employee and registered student for the duration, but the cost is shared by the company, GSI and the Irish Research Council. For the purposes of this call, the GSI may count as an Employment Partner (Public body) if the project requires infrastructure or data only available from the GSI, however GSI restrictions do apply. If you have a project that you think could be hosted by the GSI please contact us as soon as possible at research@gsi.ie

Funding available: Contributions to scholarship and fees for Masters (Research) (Max €16k scholarship, Max €5,750 fees and max €2,250 research costs). Employment partners must contribute 1/3rd of the minimum cost (€24k per annum) but can contribute additional salary costs if appropriate for the work being undertaken.

 Duration: 12 or 24 months

Eligibility: Masters (Research) level student hosted by an industry partner or approved public body

Research for Policy & Society

​The Irish Research Council and Geological Survey Ireland have partnered to support a programme for Research for Policy and Society.

Each project is a max of 24 months and €100,000. We strongly encourage social science researchers to apply for this call, preferably in partnership with geoscience researchers.

Expressions of interest must be submitted to IRC.

Application deadline is usually in the final quarter of the year.
