Geological Survey Ireland is a repository of the National Archives which holds a range of historic geological content and has statutory responsibility to preserve and protect records of the organisation under government archive legislation. The rare archive collections of historical significance are stored and protected in fire and temperature controlled safe storage.
The Archive is not open to public view and currently does not have an archivist. Not all of GSI archive content is currently catalogued. While underpinned by limited resources currently, our aim is to complete the cataloguing with the objective to have records and information made more accessible for clients and researchers.
Enquiries about the archives are welcome and a request can be directed to Eddie McMonagle (Information Programme) by email: eddie.mcmonagle[AT]gsi.ie. However, it should be noted we are unable to undertake research, requests can be evaluated and when feasible, a site viewing will require an appointment.
More information is available on the records held in the archives, the George Victor Du Noyer Collection, the Portlock Collection and geological books here (redirect to the Information programme).
