iCRAG seek a Research Assistant to work with Dr Lingli Zhou and Prof. Murray Hitzman at iCRAG/University College Dublin. The work will be part of the project "Exploring the critical metal potential of Irish Zn-Pb deposit", which is funded by the Geological Survey Ireland. The position duration is 3 months (June-August) to the maximum.
Undergraduate and master students are particularly welcome to apply. The candidate will have the opportunity to play both leadership and supportive roles in the project. The candidate will also have the opportunity to be trained for the use of state-of-the-art analytical facilities in Ireland.
The candidate is expected to:
- (i) Carry out detailed petrology and mineralogy characterisation work on both Irish Zn-Pb ores and mine tailings by using optical microscope and SEM;
- (ii) Analyse the critical metal contents in Irish ores and tailings by using in-situ Laser ablation-ICPMS technique;
- (iii) Develop an online platform to integrate the geochemical database at a regional scale.
