Geological Survey Ireland, a division of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, is Ireland's national Earth Science knowledge centre, working on behalf of the Irish public. A postion for a senior geologist working on the EU Recast Drinking Water Directive has opened with a 4-year fixed term contract.
Geological Survey Ireland is based in Booterstown Hall, Booterstown Avenue, Blackrock, County Dublin, A94 N2R6 but fieldwork will take place throughout the country.
Requirements:
- A qualification at minimum level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications
(NFQ) or NARIC Ireland equivalent in Hydrogeology, Geology or equivalent, and
- Have at least five (5) years’ relevant experience in hydrogeology.
- OR
- A qualification at minimum level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications
(NFQ) or NARIC Ireland equivalent in an Earth Science discipline or equivalent, and
- Have at least ten (10) years’ relevant experience in hydrogeology.
- AND Relevant experience in source protection zone delineation/hydrogeological
assessment and reporting;
• Working knowledge of Irish geology and Irish hydrogeology;
- Working knowledge of delivering a project within scope on time and budget
- Working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidelines (Drinking Water
Directive and Regulations, GAP Regulations, Water Framework Directive, Nitrates
Directive, appropriate EPA guidance notes etc.)
- Relevant fieldwork experience e.g. hydrogeology, source protection work;

- Demonstrate the skills to liaise with hydrogeology, environmental, government and
third level sector representatives;
- Relevant experience in systematic and accurate data handling and analysis;
- High level of IT proficiency in Microsoft, or equivalent packages;
- Current full Irish driving licence.
