The Tellus Programme is pleased to announce the release of new soil geochemical data for Dublin. These soil samples were collected during the summer of 2021 and following extensive laboratory analysis and data checking the results are available for download.
Soil samples were collected on a detailed grid measuring 500m x 500m from across the city and the results help to show that the geochemical variations within the soil are due to both natural and anthropogenic controls. Data includes ICP data from 52 elements along with pH, and Loss on Ignition analysis (a proxy for organic material or soil carbon). The data will help improve our understanding of soil health in Dublin.
The G8 Dublin urban geochemical survey is part of the Tellus national geochemistry survey which has been collecting soils from across the country since 2011 and is managed by Geological Survey Ireland. Further geochemical data from the rest of the country along with other urban centres will be released over the coming years.
Data is free to download from the Tellus Data page on the Geological Survey Ireland website. An observational report highlighting areas of interest is also available for download here.
