A multi-author, multi-organisation research
paper, English et al. 2023, on the potential for deep geothermal energy on the island of Ireland was published recently. Including data from Geological Survey Ireland, the paper
provides an overview of geothermal energy, including a discussion on the
key geological controls on heat distribution in the subsurface. It also looks at the
different types of geothermal resources and their potential uses. The potential of
decarbonising the heat sector using geothermal energy is also explored in this publication.
