1st International workshop on hyperspectral core scanning hosted by Geological Survey Ireland

Published:

Geological Survey Ireland hosted an international expert workshop on hyperspectral core imaging on Tuesday, 19 and Wednesday, 20 November in Dublin. The theme of the workshop was "Lowering the barriers to entry for hyperspectral core scan analysis".

Experts from various Geological Surveys, as well as industry professionals, met in Dublin to discuss this cutting-edge technology. Hyperspectral imaging is used to identify and map minerals in core, by capturing their unique reflectance or emission spectra at multiple narrow and contiguous spectral bands.

Geological Survey Ireland has a core scanning laboratory, and this technology can help society to source the raw materials necessary for the green transition, while lowering the carbon footprint of exploration and leveraging existing data.
