Since its establishment in 1988, the IPCC has provided the world with authoritative scientific assessments of the causes and consequences of climate change, along with options to respond to the challenges it poses.
The reports of the IPCC have underpinned the development of climate policy from global to local levels. In 2007 the IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, together with Al Gore, while its most recent report was central to the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015.
On Thursday 30 August, a special event to celebrate the work and contributions of the IPCC over the last 30 years will take place in the MacNeill Theatre, Trinity College Dublin. The event will be chaired by Paul Cunningham, RTÉ News and Current Affairs.
