The British Irish Chamber of Commerce (BICC) Infrastructure Committee has published its policy paper that assesses the challenges and opportunities that Brexit presents to the infrastructure sector. The paper forms the basis of the BICC submission to the National Planning Framework.
The Committee, chaired by Sean Finlay, Director, Business Development at Geoscience Ireland, makes a series of recommendations including:
- investment in port infrastructure and transport links;prioritisation of the rollout of the National Broadband Plan; and
- the establishment of a formal UK-Ireland Transport and Infrastructure Forum to address areas of mutual concern in light of Brexit.
The Irish Independent noted there is an opportunity for Ireland now to influence Brexit talks being held in Brussels. John McGrane, Director General of The British Irish Chamber of Commerce, said: “We’re calling for a national discussion; we think the Government is doing an excellent job, but now is the time for businesses to be laying out clear priorities”.
The full policy paper and recommendations can be viewed on the BICC website.
