Geological Survey Ireland consults on planning, mainly when related to quarries, roads, and wind farms​​​ and also in County Development and Heritage Plans.  We are appreciatative of the relationships we have development with local Authorities and Planning Consultants in this regard.  Our data is freely available for the preparation of plans and planning documents.  ​The following are examples of sections within each document where our data will be of use.  In all cases, please contact us for further information or consultation.

​County Development Plans

 - ​​County geology.

 - County Geological Sites and protection policy - 

As a minimum, the Geological Survey of Ireland would like the Local Authority to include a policy objective with wording such as:

"to protect from inappropriate development the scheduled list of geological heritage sites [Appendix X]." 

Or
 
"to protect from inappropriate development the following list of County Geological Sites"

County Heritage Plans

- County geology.

 - Use of County Geological Sites in tourism and culture.


Environmental Impact Assessment Reports

- Preparation of soils, geology and hydrogeology chapters. 

 - Geological heritage and landscape characteristics.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

​ - Use of data and maps in the preparation of the SEA, particularily in the chapter on soil, geology and hydrogeology.

Appropriate Assessment Screening (Natura)

County Geological Sites are protected in County Development and County Heritage Plans and some County Geological Sites and proposed National Heritage Sites and should be included in the preparation of Appropriate Assessment Screening documents.
