2022 Du Noyer Photographic Competition

The winners of the 2022 Du Noyer Irish Geological Association/Geological Survey Ireland Photographic Competition were announced in Geological Survey Ireland on 9 December 2022.

Irish section:

1st - Kevin Ledwith, Garretstown Beach, Co Cork

2nd - Robert Fairfield, Loop Head, Co Clare

3rd - Kevin Kim, Muckros, Co Donegal


Overseas section:

Winner - Molli Buckley, banded iron formation gorge walls at Karrijini National Park in Western Australia. 

First place - Kevin Ledwith - Garretstown Beach, Co Cork

Beds of sandstone and mudstone deposited during the Carboniferous Period (359 to 299 million years) showing evidence of deformation from the Variscan Orogeny.


Second place - Robert Fairfield - Loop Head, Co Clare

Beds of sandstone and siltstone deposited during the Carboniferous Period (359 to 299 million years). Beds show some crossbedding and the erosion of a sea arch.


Third place - Kevin Kim - Muckros Head, Kilcar, Co Donegal

Horizontal beds of sandstone and mudstone deposited during the Carboniferous Period (359 to 299 million years).


Overseas Winner - Molli Buckley Banded Iron Formation Gorge Walls at Karrijini National Park in Western Australia.
