Dimension stone, i.e. decorative cut and polished stone, has been used to spectacular effect in Dundrum Town Centre.  Stone from a wide variety of places, such as South Africa, Italy and the Himalayas, has been selected for its beauty, colour and texture.  The three main classes of rock, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic are all represented.

The three levels (floors) of the centre will be explored to look at the detail of the rocks used, particularly colour and textures to unravel the rocks' history, type, origin and possibly age.

This will be an easy going evening of working together to unravel the secrets of these rocks. Susan Pyne has kindly offered to lead the tour. Susan is a geologist, member, friend and past president of the Irish Geological Association.

Bring a hand lens if you have one and be prepared to get down on your hands and knees!

Please email the Irish Geological Association if you intend to take part at irishgeologicalassociation@gmail.com.
